Even though it's still snowing here in Berlin, springtime has officially started.
With spring being here, Ayurvedic principles tell us that we’re in a time of both earth, with its grounded heaviness, and water, with its cool movement.
When earth and water combine, there’s potential for growth and new sprouts, of course - but there’s also the likelihood of mud.
Like mud, this time of year can be full of feelings of sluggishness and cold. Your sinuses may be struggling, especially with hay fever season just around the corner. Feelings of depression and grief can, naturally, come up. The heaviness of these qualities can weigh on you.
It’s understandable that all of this combined could leave you feeling quite stuck. But you don’t have to let the mud suck you in and keep you there.
No matter what you’re going through, no matter what kapha presents for you, there are ways to shift your routines and feel in step with what this season asks for. Whether you talk with a therapist to find ways to connect with your body and your self or reach out to a friend for an honest conversation, you can live within these natural rhythms in a way that feels right for you.
Journaling can also help you respond to the mud-like sensation of being stuck, but it can be hard to know where to start.
Try this: grab a piece of paper - whether it’s a favorite journal or the back of an unused envelope - and take a moment to think and write about these points:
* Three things you’re proud of
* Three things that felt good today
* How you can add a bit of heat to your diet (e.g., with chili peppers or garlic)
* How you can add some heat to your body (e.g., with more vigorous exercise)
* Three routines or structures that are not really supporting you
* Who (or what) might be able to help you with let go of those three things
I hope you embrace these small, gentle steps to help you get moving.
